  • non-lethal genetic damage (mutation)

  • acquired or inherited

  • clonal expression of a single progenitor cell (i.e. monoclonal)

Cancer Initiation

  • for change to be inheritable damaged DNA template must be replicated

  • at least one cell cycle of proliferation ’;fixing’; (making permanent) of the mutation

  • if cells do not proliferate damaged DNA may be repaired
